What to Bring to the Flooring Showroom So You Pick Right the First Time

Picking a floor or a countertop from a small sample in a showroom is harder than it sounds, because a four inch chip under showroom lighting can look nothing like that same material covering four hundred square feet of your own kitchen or living room. A few minutes of prep before your visit makes a real difference in whether you walk out happy with your choice or end up second guessing it once it is installed. Here is what to bring with you to our showroom on Lakeland Drive in Flowood.

Bring the Cabinet Door, Not Just the Cabinet Color

If you are picking a countertop or a kitchen floor and your cabinets are staying, bring an actual cabinet door with you, or at minimum a close up photo taken in daylight. Cabinet finishes read very differently depending on the sheen, the undertone, and the age of the finish, and trying to match from memory almost always leads to a pairing that looks slightly off once everything is in the room together. The same goes for trim and baseboard if you are matching a hardwood or laminate floor to existing woodwork elsewhere in the house.

A Paint Chip Does More Than You Think

Wall color drives how any floor or countertop reads in a room. A warm gray floor can look cool and flat against a wall with blue undertones, and the same floor can look rich and warm against a wall with beige or tan undertones. If your walls are already painted, bring the chip or the can label if you still have it. If you are painting at the same time as flooring, bring a few candidates and we can talk through which ones will pair well with the material you are leaning toward.

Photos and Measurements of the Actual Room

A few phone photos of the room in natural daylight, taken from a couple of angles, tell us more than a verbal description ever will. Include the window in at least one shot, since the direction of natural light changes how a sample looks throughout the day. Rough measurements of the room, or even just the square footage from a past listing or appraisal, let us give you a realistic estimate range on your first visit instead of a vague guess that changes later. None of this needs to be exact. Close is genuinely good enough for a first conversation.

Why the Sample Looks Different at Home

Every showroom uses a mix of lighting that is brighter and more even than most homes, so a sample can look lighter or cooler in our showroom than it will under your kitchen pendant lights or beside a window at sunset. This is normal, not a flaw in the product. We will send larger samples home with you when it matters, and we always recommend looking at your top pick or two in your own house, at a couple of different times of day, before committing on anything more than a room or two.

You Do Not Have to Have It All Figured Out

You do not need a finished design plan to come in and look. Plenty of people walk in with nothing more than a general idea, a photo of their kitchen, and a rough sense of their budget, and that is plenty to start a real conversation. We would rather talk through three or four honest options with you in person than have you guess alone from a website gallery. If you are comparing us against other estimates, bring those too. Knowing what you have already been quoted helps us give you a straight answer on where a material or an installation approach differs, rather than a generic pitch that does not address what you actually asked about.

If You Are Comparing Multiple Rooms

If you are flooring more than one room, whether it is a full main floor replacement or separate projects in a kitchen and a bathroom, bring photos and rough measurements for each space rather than just the one you are most focused on. Adjoining rooms often look better in a coordinated material or at least a coordinated tone, even if the products themselves differ from room to room, and it is much easier for us to plan that out while we can see everything you are working with at once instead of piecing it together from a second visit weeks later.
